Where the Sierra Nevada leans towards the sea
Why it stands out
- 01
Sierra Nevada and the Tropical Coast in balance
Few southern valleys let you see a 3,000-metre mountain and the sea from the same spot. In January, almond blossom and snowy peaks coexist 30 km apart in a straight line.
- 02
Right next to Granada without losing the rural feel
Just 30-40 minutes by car separate Granada from the valley, but the contrast is huge: white villages of 500-2,000 people, untouristed, with functioning Arabic acequias.
- 03
Almond blossom in January
The Lecrín Valley is one of the earliest places in the south where almond trees bloom. Late January, hillsides turn white and pink before they do anywhere else in the country.
- 04
Alpujarra cuisine and local olive oil
Country inns in the valley cook plato alpujarreño, migas, kid in garlic and use olive oils from the Nigüelas cooperative, several times among Spain's top-rated AOVE.

Frequently asked questions
What does a "night" ride mean?
It's a sunset ride (not deep-night riding): you mount as the sun starts to drop and return to the centre after dark. It usually comes with dinner at your accommodation afterwards.
Is it exclusively for couples?
No, it works for friends or families with kids over 6. The night-and-dinner package is just designed for small groups, usually couples.
When do the almond trees bloom?
Between the last week of January and the second week of February, depending on the year. One of the earliest blooms in southern Spain.
How do I pair it with Granada?
Most common: night in the valley + a full day in Granada (Albaicín, Cathedral, Realejo). With another night, it's worth sleeping in town for the Alhambra at sunset.
Do I need much skill to ride?
No. Beginner walking rides with a guide. If you've never ridden, say so on arrival and they'll start with the basics.
