Cabriel river, tipis and the feeling of being nowhere
Why it stands out
- 01
One of the Mediterranean's best-preserved rivers
The Cabriel Gorges Nature Reserve was declared in 2005 and UNESCO included it in the Cabriel Valley Biosphere Reserve. Clean water, intact fauna and very low mid-week pressure.
- 02
Rafting accessible to almost everyone
Main 7 km stretch with class II-III rapids, perfect for first-timers. Kids from 8-10 years old with a guide; groups can all ride the same raft.
- 03
Tipis and cabins inside the Reserve
Rustic lodgings by the river, no tarmac, no street-lights. Clean sky, perfect for stargazing. One of the few off-grid plans on the east coast without going too far.
- 04
Perfect for stag/hen weekends and groups
Packages for 10-30 people with barbecue, group dinner, rafting and tipi night. Per-person prices drop as the group grows. No nightclub in sight, by the way.

How to get there
Best time: May to October. Cabriel flow is controlled by dams; in spring and autumn there are releases that improve the descent. Summer is great for pool swimming; many camps close in winter.
Getting there: Venta del Moro is 90 km from Valencia via the A-3 and N-322 (~1h15). Cuenca 100 km, Madrid 250 km (2.5 h). No regular public transport to the camp; you need a car.
What to bring: swimsuit, footwear that can get wet (water shoe or closed trainer), tech t-shirt, towel, sunscreen. Wetsuit, helmet and life vest provided by the operator.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a strong swimmer for rafting?
No. You need to stay calm in the water and be able to float with a life vest. The operator provides wetsuit, helmet and vest; minors always ride with a guide.
From what age can kids join?
Usually from 8-10 for rafting; some operators set it at 12. For younger children, there's canoeing on the calm pools.
What's the night in a tipi like?
Tipis are circular tents with several beds (4-6 people), wooden floor and no plugs. Shared bathrooms and showers at the camp. Shared kitchen or set dinner depending on the package.
Is there mobile reception at the camp?
Very limited and sometimes none. It's part of the plan: stag/hen weekends and groups see it as a plus.
Does it run in winter?
Many camps close from November to March. In autumn and spring it works if there's enough flow and temperature; check before.
