Frequently asked questions
How many wineries are in DO Mondéjar?
About a dozen, mostly family-run. Only some open to the public by appointment — always book.
Worth the trip from Madrid?
Yes for one night, especially in autumn or lavender bloom. As a day trip, the A-2 return eats half the plan.
What's the accommodation like?
Charming family hotels and rural houses. Don't expect 5-star: it's village-scale, home cooking and personal service.
When does lavender bloom in Brihuega?
Between 10 and 30 July depending on the year. There's a lavender festival and sunset concerts among the rows.
Can I combine with watersports?
Yes. The Entrepeñas and Buendía reservoirs are 25-40 min from Mondéjar with kayak, SUP and sailing May-September.
What's the DO Mondéjar wine like?
Fresher and lighter-bodied than Ribera or Rioja. Tempranillo and Cabernet in reds, Malvar in whites. Good value for money.
