Green Asturias at an easy pedal pace
Why it stands out
- 01
Real e-bike, not an excuse
Electric assist isn't for lazy riders: it's what lets a couple with different fitness levels ride together without one waiting on the other. Here it's the core of the product, not an add-on.
- 02
Greenway + Biosphere Reserve
Few places in Spain combine comfortable cycling infrastructure (Senda del Oso, 36 km) with such a dense protected landscape: Redes, Somiedo and Ubiñas are three contiguous UNESCO reserves.
- 03
Truly self-guided
GPX on your phone, hotel booked, bike waiting. No group, no guide rushing you. You decide when to start, where to stop and whether today's fabada deserves another hour at the table.
- 04
Spa built into the plan
Most bike trips end with the rider collapsed in the room. Here lodging includes thermal circuit or spa: the body thanks you and the day stretches without extra effort.
Who it fits
Fits if: you're 30-55, traveling as a couple or with friends, you like moving but aren't chasing a challenge. You want green nature, good food, and a hotel to unwind in. You can follow a GPX on your phone.
Doesn't fit if: you're after alpine climbing, long technical MTB days or a guided group. For that, check Picos de Europa traverse or an MTB camp. Also skip it if you travel with kids under 10: average stages run 30-40 km.

How to get there
Best season: May-June and September-October. Asturias is green because it rains: August is the driest bet but the coast gets crowded. In winter the Senda del Oso is still rideable but daylight is short.
Gear: helmet mandatory, light rain jacket (always), padded gloves, cycling shorts. E-bike and GPX provided by the local operator.
Access: Asturias Airport (OVD) is 30 min from Oviedo. ALVIA train Madrid-Oviedo (3h45). If you drive in, park at the hotel and forget the car.
Permits: none. Senda del Oso is a public greenway. The Proaza bear enclosure is viewable without booking.
Recommendations
Start with the Senda del Oso on day one (easiest, no climbs) to dial in the e-bike and pace. Save an afternoon for Cudillero: park the bike, walk the amphitheater of houses, eat seafood at the harbor. If a stage looks like heavy rain, swap it for a spa session or the Museo del Pueblo de Asturias in Gijón — the landscape will still be there tomorrow. Always carry fruit and bars: rural cider houses close by 4 pm and the next open spot can be 20 km away.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need MTB skills?
No. Routes are on greenway (paved or hard-packed) and low-traffic secondary road. If you can balance and brake, you're set.
How much do I ride per day?
Between 25 and 45 km, with minimal climbing on flat stages (Senda del Oso) and gentle 200-400 m climbs on the Trubia ones. With e-bike, 3-4 hours at a comfortable pace.
What if it rains?
It rains in Asturias, accept it. The rain jacket is part of the kit. If it pours, indoor alternatives: spa, museums, Oviedo strolling. No refund for rain, but the day can be reshuffled.
Can I bring my own bike?
Yes, but you lose the electric assist that makes the experience. If yours is electric, perfect.
Does someone move luggage between hotels?
Depends on the operator. In this area inter-hotel luggage transfer is common and either included or bookable. We confirm when locking dates.
Good for a first bike trip?
One of the friendliest options. E-assist + greenway + self-guided gives you room to make mistakes without consequences.
What's the food like?
Fabada, cachopo, Cabrales and Gamonéu cheese, seafood on the coast, rice pudding. Asturian cuisine is hearty: stages go down better with big breakfast and light lunch mid-route.
