§02 — The place

The hidden water of inland Valencia.

A day here is leaving the car, walking twenty minutes among holm oaks and hearing the water before you see it: a waterfall dropping into a turquoise pool you can wade into up to your neck. It's lunch in the shade by the river, watching the kids leap off a rock and, on the way back, peering into a cave where someone painted goats eight thousand years ago. Close to Valencia, but a world away.

§03 — Why it stands out

Why it stands out

  1. 01

§04 — Who it fits

Who it fits

With friends Adventure Ecotourism Family Relaxation Seasonal Experiences
It fits families and groups of friends after nature and water: swimming in waterfalls and pools, short walks and quiet villages. It's mainly a spring-to-autumn plan — in summer the water is the star but also the busiest season, so go early. If you're after a beach, nightlife or grand monuments, this isn't your destination: here the point is freshwater and the inland.

Physical level & requirements

Easy. Most waterfalls and pools are reached on short 15-40 minute walks, suitable for families with children. Some accesses have steps or slippery stretches by the water: take care, but nothing demanding.

How to get there

Best time: June to September for swimming; spring and autumn for walking with green countryside and no heat. In winter the water is cold and some pools run low.

Getting around: a car is essential; the spots are spread between villages and public transport is scarce.

Capacity: in summer several spots (Quesa pools, lake of Anna) regulate access or parking. Arrive early and check before going.

Bring: shoes you can get wet, water shoes, a change of clothes, food and water. Respect the environment: no soap in the river and take all your litter.

Recommendations

In summer, go early: by mid-morning the car parks at the famous pools fill up. Pair a water spot with a guided visit to the Caroig rock art to round off the day. And spread out: the county has water to spare, so skip the busiest spot and find a lesser-known pool.
