Andalusia's first via ferrata cracks the south open to climbing
Why it stands out
- 01
Pioneering via ferrata in Andalusia
The Torcal/Sierra de Chimenea was the first equipped via ferrata in the region. 70 m high, K3-K4 difficulty, several overhangs and a zip line to finish.
- 02
Unique karst in Europe
The Torcal preserves one of the most spectacular Jurassic karst landscapes on the continent. 17 km² protected as a Natural Site; green and yellow marked trails.
- 03
Triple UNESCO Heritage Site
Antequera alone brings together three UNESCO icons within 30 km: The karst landscape of El Torcal, the megalithic dolmens (Menga, Viera, Romeral) and the entrance to Caminito del Rey.
- 04
Direct AVE connection
Antequera-Santa Ana has a direct high-speed train (AVE) from Madrid in 2 h 30. It allows you to do the weekend without a car to the destination and rent a local transfer.
Who it fits
Fits if you want to squeeze three Andalusian adventure icons into a weekend within 30 km. Ideal for groups of friends or fit couples.
Doesn't fit if you want beach (the coast is 50 km away), long Picos-style ferratas, or quiet relaxation. The Caminito del Rey has capacity caps and gets crowded on spring/autumn weekends.
