§02 — The place

Spain at the speed of a horse.

There’s a way to see the countryside that a car steals from you: the pace of horseback riding. When you ride for days through a canyon, an oak forest or a juniper grove, you stop going somewhere and start being within the landscape. Feel the animal beneath you, hear only hooves and wind, sleep where night falls. It’s not an hour-long ride: these are real journeys, for those who already know how to ride and want to use it to travel an entire country at a slower pace.

§03 — Why it stands out

Why it stands out

  1. 01

    Journey, not stroll

Here we don’t spend twenty minutes going in circles: we ride for days to truly explore a canyon, an oak forest or a region.

  2. 02

    Western saddle and field horses

Noble horses accustomed to the terrain and Western saddle, the combination designed to comfortably endure many hours of riding.

  3. 03

    Always with equestrian monitoring

A professional accompanies each outing, assigns the horse according to your level and sets a comfortable pace for the group.

  4. 04

    Undiscovered inland landscapes

The Duratón Gorges, the juniper groves of Segovia, the holm oak forests and vineyards of the Duero River: a Spain that is lived differently on horseback.

§04 — Who it fits

Who it fits

With friends Adventure Ecotourism Disconnection
For riders with some experience: people who have ridden before, are comfortable at walk and trot, and can comfortably spend several hours in the saddle. This is not a plan for absolute beginners who have never ridden a horse: long treks require a minimum of confidence and independence in the saddle. If you are unsure of your level, it’s best to start with a shorter ride before embarking on a multi-day expedition.

§06 — The practical side

More practical details

Physical level & requirements

Moderate physical fitness level. Spending several hours horseback riding for consecutive days is more tiring than it appears: it works your legs, back and abdomen. It’s advisable to be accustomed to some physical exertion and not have any back or knee injuries that could be aggravated by the horse’s movement.

How to get there

Riding level: prior riding experience is needed. The routes are mostly at walking pace, but there are sections of trot and long days that require confidence and physical endurance. Saddle: all outings use a Western saddle, the most comfortable and safe for many hours in the field. Best time to go: spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild and the countryside is at its best; summer can be tough due to the heat inland. Recommended equipment: comfortable or riding pants, boots with a heel, helmet (essential), layered clothing, sun protection and gloves.

Recommendations

Be honest about your riding level when you book: the instructor will adapt the horse and pace to each rider, but needs to know your experience. If it’s been months since you last rode, spend a few hours regaining your balance before the trek. And take care of the animal as much as you take care of yourself: the horse is your travel companion, not a vehicle.
§07 — Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to ride a horse?

Yes. These routes are for riders with some experience, not absolute beginners. You need to be able to ride at walking pace and be comfortable spending hours in the saddle.

How long are the routes?

Options range from a single night to expeditions of up to eight nights. Each departure indicates its duration and difficulty level.

What type of saddle is used?

Western saddle on all outings: it’s the most comfortable and safe option for long days in the countryside.

Where do the routes run?

The base is in Segovia and the Hoces del Duratón, but there are excursions through savin groves, oak forests, mountains and the landscapes of the Ribera del Duero.

When is the best time to go?

Spring and autumn, for mild temperatures. Summer inland can be very hot for the horse and rider.
