What you'll experience

  1. From Lazkaomendi to the mountains

    Reception and briefing, horse assignment and initial handling tests. We depart from Lazkaomendi (Gipuzkoa) and ascend towards the first oak groves of Aralar, gradually gaining altitude until we reach our accommodation. Dinner and rest.

  2. The heart of Aralar towards Lekunberri

    The big stage: we cross high pastures and beech forests through the heart of the massif, with the Sanctuary of San Miguel as a landmark on top, and descend towards Lekunberri (Navarra). Lunch along the way and overnight stay in the area.

  3. Trip to the mountains

    We complete the loop riding back along different trails, enjoying a final morning among oak groves before saying goodbye to the horses and ending the journey.

Lodging

  • Two nights with full board.
    Accommodation for the two nights of the crossing, with full board between stages. Rest at the foot of the mountains before tackling the next day.

    All meals in the program included: breakfasts and dinners at the accommodation, and lunch on route during the stages, to replenish your energy in the mountains.

  • Briefing and horse assignment.
    Upon arrival, group reception, safety briefing and handling instructions, and assignment of your mountain horse according to level and build. Basic tests on the track before heading out on the trail.
  • Day 1: Entrance to Aralar from Lazkaomendi
    First stage on horseback: we depart from Lazkaomendi (Gipuzkoa) and venture into the oak forests of Aralar, gradually gaining altitude until we reach our accommodation.
  • Day 2: Heart of Aralar towards Lekunberri
    The big stage: we cross high pastures and beech forests through the heart of the massif, with the Sanctuary of San Miguel as a landmark, and descend towards Lekunberri (Navarra).

You don’t need to be an expert or master technical canters, but this isn't for beginners either: if you’ve never been on a horse, this trip isn’t for you. Nor is it if you're looking for long and demanding rides on technical terrain, because here the focus is on enjoying the scenery at a leisurely pace. It’s perfect for those who want three days in real mountain country, on horseback, with the security of a guided experience.

Do I need experience riding horses?
Yes. This is a trek for riders with some experience: you need to know how to ride at walk and trot and be comfortable in the saddle for several hours. It is not a beginner riding experience.
Is the horse riding included?
Yes, the mountain horse rental is included. You will be assigned one after the initial briefing based on your level and build.
What does full board include?
Two nights accommodation and all meals included in the program, including lunch during each stage.
When is the best time to do it?
From spring to autumn. May-June offers the mountains lush and green, and October gifts you with oak forests and beech woods changing color.
Are you accompanied at all times?
Yes. A guide opens and leads the route, and a sports technician travels in support throughout the journey.
