First day through the valley

Day through the ancient juniper groves of the sierra, with food along the way and long stages passing among millennial trees.

The area

The Sierra de la Demanda is a mid-mountain range between Burgos and La Rioja, with gentle relief, dense forests and unique juniper groves in Europe. Covarrubias, at its foot, preserves a medieval town with half-timbered houses and a timeless atmosphere. A territory of deep Castile, quiet and sparsely travelled.

By car: Covarrubias is about 40 km southeast of Burgos (about 45 min), well connected by the N-234 and local roads.

From Madrid: about 2h30 via the A-1 to Burgos and then a local road.

By train/bus: the nearest train station is Burgos, with road connection to Covarrubias.
