Context
The guided geological walk takes place in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Geopark, a UNESCO-recognized protected area celebrated for its exceptional volcanic geology. Located in Níjar, Andalusia, this natural park features volcanic domes, calderas, and rugged cliffs, all set against a dry Mediterranean climate that allows year-round access. The route covers a total elevation gain of approximately 100 meters over natural trails of volcanic rock and loose earth.
The Experience
The hike begins in the fishing village of Isleta del Moro, where a certified geologist leads the group through the region’s geological history. As you walk along natural trails, the wind carries scents of thyme and sea salt. You’ll visit the Cabo de Gata Volcanic Domes and the Majada Redonda Caldera, observing close-up the dramatic volcanic features and untouched beaches.
