Context
Peña Mea, standing at 1,558 meters, is the highest peak in the municipality of Laviana and part of the Protected Landscape of the Mining Basins in Asturias. This mountain is renowned for its dense beech and oak forests and the distinctive geological formation known as Ojo de Buey, which offers extraordinary panoramic views. The trail covers approximately 11.6 km with a total elevation gain of 980 meters, blending natural beauty with local cultural heritage.

The journey begins in the village of Pelúgano, passing through paths that alternate between rocky sections and dense woodlands. The wind carries the fresh scent of the mountain as you progress toward the Ojo de Buey, where the group pauses to observe the formation and take in the surrounding landscape. The final ascent to the summit reveals 360-degree views, including the Picos de Europa, the Ubiñas range, and the Cantabrian Sea.
