Wine, embers of the vine, a long linger over lunch.
Why it stands out
- 01
The Station District of Haro
Seven century-old wineries in one square kilometer: López de Heredia, Muga, La Rioja Alta, CVNE, Bilbaínas, Gómez Cruzado and Roda. They arrived in 1880 to send Rioja by rail to Bordeaux; they still make wine there. There is no other place in the world with that concentration.
- 02
Wine and contemporary architecture, side by side.
Marqués de Riscal with the hotel by Frank Gehry in Elciego, Ysios by Santiago Calatrava, Viña Tondonia with a pavilion by Zaha Hadid. The D.O.Ca. Rioja invested in renowned architects when the rest of the sector was still building industrial warehouses – now you can enjoy tastings inside buildings designed by famous names.
- 03
Laurel Street: 50 bars in 200 meters
In Logroño, each bar on Laurel Street specializes in a snack — Soriano makes mushrooms, Donosti makes shrimp skewer, Sebas makes stuffed pork sausage. You go in, order A snack with A young red wine, leave and move on to the next. It costs 2-3€ per stop. There's nothing like it in Spain.
- 04
A capital city with high-speed train and airports an hour away.
Logroño has a direct high-speed train from Madrid (3h) since 2024. Bilbao is a 1h30 drive away and Vitoria is 1h. For a 2-3 night getaway without losing a day to travel, accessibility is real – you don’t need to take a whole week.

Frequently asked questions
How many wineries can I visit in one day?
Two visits with tastings and one meal is reasonable. Three is possible if you start early and coordinate timing.
Do I need a car?
Recommended. Wineries are spread out and towns are small. We can arrange a private driver—just let us know during your quote.
What’s the best time to visit?
May–June (lush green vineyards) and September–October (harvest season). Summer works too, but midday heat can be intense.
Is it suitable for non-drinkers?
Yes — wineries offer tours without tastings, and restaurants provide menus without pairings. Wine enhances the experience, but it’s not required.
