Description

Context Villagarcía del Llano, located in the La Manchuela region of Cuenca, is home to Bodegas Villagar, a cooperative with over 1,500 hectares of vineyards situated at 780 meters above sea level. This high-altitude site features a continental climate with significant daily temperature variations, which promote slow grape ripening—key to producing high-quality wines under the Manchuela Denominación de Origen. Dry winds carry the scent of wild thyme growing between the vines, adding to the unique terroir.

The Experience The visit begins with an overview of the cooperative’s history and local environment. You’ll then walk through the vineyards, observing traditional vine training methods in the vino en vaso (bush) style and espaldera (trellis) cultivation, as fresh, clean air brushes against your skin. The tour continues in the winery, where the full process—from harvest to bottling—is explained. The visit concludes with a guided wine tasting featuring wines with distinct fruity and mineral notes, paired with authentic Manchegan delicacies that awaken the palate with smooth, balanced textures.

For Whom Ideal for travelers who enjoy cultural and gastronomic wine tourism in peaceful rural settings. Suitable for adults and small to medium-sized groups with normal mobility. Not recommended for individuals who avoid alcohol or have limited mobility without prior consultation.

Local Context The local community preserves deep-rooted agricultural and culinary traditions, including the cultivation of garlic and onions that complement the region’s rich viticulture. The parish church and main square reflect the history of this traditional Manchegan village, where winegrowing remains a vital economic and cultural pillar.
