Description

Argumedo gorge, in the Gándara area (Cantabria), is renowned among canyoners in northern Spain for its exceptional scenic beauty. Moss-covered rock walls, turquoise pools and the dense vegetation of the Cantabrian setting create a backdrop rarely found in a Level II canyon. Accessible, beautiful and technically interesting — a hard combination to beat.

The 4-5 hour day combines calm swimming sections between high walls, rappels over water jets and optional jumps into deep pools. The Level II character of Argumedo means real technique is involved — the guide works on rappel posture and current control — but without reaching the demands of a Level III. It is the ideal canyon for those who have already tried Level I and want one more step of excitement without losing the pleasure of the surroundings.

Minimum age 12. Having done at least one Level I canyon beforehand is recommended. The Gándara setting, in the Campoo-Los Valles region, adds value to the whole experience: Cantabrian interior in its purest form.

About the Area

The Campoo-Los Valles region occupies the mountainous interior of Cantabria, south of the Cantabrian range. Local rivers rise at considerable altitude and descend powerfully towards the Ebro reservoir, generating characterful canyons along the way. The Gándara setting combines mountain meadows, mixed forest and limestone outcrops in one of the most authentic landscapes of inland Cantabria.
