Monte Serantes, in the municipality of Santurtzi, is one of the most distinctive natural spots on the Biscay coastline. Its waymarked trails wind between hillside and shore, offering sweeping views over the Abra estuary, the Bilbao river mouth and the Bay of Biscay. This varied terrain — packed earth, stone paths and gentle gradients — makes it the ideal setting to take Nordic walking technique to the next level.
This advanced course is designed for people who have already got to grips with the poles and want to refine the details that make a real difference: correct propulsion, arm-leg coordination, posture on ascents and descents, and movement efficiency on uneven ground. The 3-hour session is structured in two working blocks, alternating active practice with technical corrections to allow for deeper skill consolidation.
Groups are kept small, ensuring genuinely personalised attention from the instructors. Each participant receives specific feedback on their walking form — something hard to achieve in larger group formats. Poles are included in the price, so there is no need to bring your own equipment.
Beyond the technical dimension, the activity is also a sensory experience: the sound of the wind from the Serantes summit, the views over Bilbao's outer port and the Atlantic vegetation lining the paths make each session far more than a workout. Nordic walking engages up to 90% of the body's muscles, and in this setting, the effort feels considerably lighter than it actually is.
The course is suitable for adults with moderate-to-good fitness who have previous Nordic walking experience. The area is accessible by public transport from Bilbao and Santurtzi, and parking is available at the mountain access points.
