What is a Picuco camp

Several days, one activity, fully sorted

A camp is a multi-day trip built around a single activity. You arrive, settle in, get taught or guided several days in a row, and leave with more skill, new friends and a clear head. Each camp includes the main activity with a certified instructor or guide, curated lodging, gear when needed, and meals that make sense for the format (in a surf camp usually breakfast plus dinner; in a canyon camp it depends).

Our catalogue covers Spain's great camps. Surf camps on the Cantabrian coast (Loredo, Somo, Berria, Pantin, Razo) and the Andalusian coast (El Palmar, Conil, La Caleta). Kitesurf camps in Tarifa (Valdevaqueros, Los Lances) and the northern coast. Canyon camps in Sierra de Guara, the European canyoning mecca, Pirineo navarro and southern sierras. Climbing camps in Riglos, Margalef and Siurana. Multi-activity camps across Spain mixing rafting, kayak, caving and canyoning.

Two formats. Open camps with set dates (8 to 15 spots, mixed with people at your level) and private camps for closed groups (family, friends, club or company) with tailored itineraries. For kids and teens there are summer camps with certified monitors, age-tuned programs, minors-compliant operations and adapted insurance. For adults the format is looser: activity in the morning, free in the afternoon.

If you have something in mind that does not appear (a themed camp, a specific date, a particular level, a large group with special needs), tell us and we send a proposal in 24 h. No commitment. Each camp has level-based groups from absolute beginner to advanced: we tell you the minimum level required, no marketing.

Frequently asked questions

¿Tienes dudas?

What is a surf camp and what does it include?
A surf camp is lodging near a beach combined with surf classes or guided sessions with a certified instructor, over several days. At Picuco every surf camp includes at minimum daily classes or guided sessions, lodging, wetsuit and board, breakfast (sometimes dinner), and usually extras such as yoga, surf skate or trips to other beaches depending on conditions.
Are there surf camps for adults in Spain or only for young people?
Both. We have surf camps specifically for adults in Berria, Somo, El Palmar and Pantin, with a more relaxed format, boutique or country lodging and level-based groups from beginner to refinement. Also camps for young people and teens with certified monitors, age programs and minors-compliant operations.
What is the best surf camp in Cantabria?
Cantabria is the cradle of Spanish surfing, with surfcamps in Somo, Loredo, Berria, Liencres and Comillas. The best camps combine location (access to several beaches depending on the day), FESurf-certified monitors and lodging that is not a packed hostel. We help you choose based on level and format (family, couple, solo group, teens).
What is the difference between a surf camp and a surf school?
A surf school sells stand-alone lessons. A surf camp is the full package: lodging plus lessons plus meals (partial or full) plus camp vibe (you share the place and schedule with other surfers). It works out cheaper than paying lodging and lessons separately, and the learning curve is faster because you surf daily for a week.
Do I need prior experience to join a camp?
Depends on the camp. Most surf, kitesurf and canyon camps have level-based groups from absolute beginner to advanced, so you can go without having tried the sport before. For some climbing or high-mountain camps we do ask a minimum level (outdoor 5+ climbing, lead autonomy). We always tell you the required level before booking.
What age can you start in a surf camp?
From age 8 in family surf camps with certified instructor and small waves. Ages 10-14 have specific youth camps. Ages 15-17, teenage camps with more autonomy. From 18, adult surf camps with more relaxed pace. No upper limit: there are surfers starting at 50, 60, even 70.
Are there kite camps for beginners in Tarifa?
Yes, most Tarifa kite camps have absolute beginner groups. You start with traction kite on land, simulator, then shallow water with instructor 2 metres away. In a 5-7 day camp you end up doing short autonomous tacks. Best season: April to June and September to October (less extreme wind).
How many hours of the main activity per day in a camp?
Surf camps: 2 daily sessions of 1.5-2 hours (morning and afternoon depending on tide). Kite camps: 3 to 5 hours depending on wind. Canyoning camps: 1 full canyon per day (4-6h). Climbing camps: 6-8h days on the wall. Adult camps usually keep afternoons free or with alternate activity (yoga, surf skate, walks).
Do camps have skill-level groups?
Yes, every camp we sell sorts by level from day 1. Surf: beginner (white water), intermediate green wave, advanced. Kite: beginner-progression-autonomy. Canyoning: beginner canyons (V1A1, mild), technical (V3-V5, rappel required), expert. We tell you the minimum level required before booking.
What season works best for a canyoning camp?
July to September, with August as peak. Canyons need high but not excessive flow, and warm water to avoid thick wetsuits. Sierra de Guara (Huesca) is the European mecca. Navarrese Pirineo and Cuenca/Murcia sierras also work. In winter most canyons are closed due to water temperature and flow.
