Description

Monte Buciero is a limestone peninsula rising above the Bay of Santoña, connected to the mainland by the Berria beach tombolo. Its vertical cliffs, holm oak forests and views over the Cantabrian Sea make it one of the most spectacular coastal formations in Cantabria.

The star attraction is Faro del Caballo lighthouse, accessible only on foot or by sea. A staircase of 763 steps carved into the rock descends the cliff face to the lighthouse, perched on a ledge above the sea. The descent is demanding but the reward is one of the most iconic images in northern Spain: the lighthouse suspended between rock and sea with turquoise waters below.

The mountain offers several circular routes beyond Faro del Caballo: the Lighthouse Route (connecting all three peninsula lighthouses), the climb to the Buciero Cross with 360° views and the holm oak forest path. The coastal batteries and Fort San Martín at the entrance complete the military heritage.
