Whale and dolphin watching from Laredo is a boat trip of about 6 hours across the Cantabrian Sea, departing from the Puerto Deportivo de Laredo, on the Costa Oriental de Cantabria. The vessel heads miles offshore in search of the cetaceans that frequent these waters: dolphins appear in almost all trips—around 95%—and during the summer months, there are real possibilities of encountering whales, which can be seen in approximately one out of every four trips. The overall sighting rate is very high: barely one out of every fourteen trips returns without any encounter.
The day begins at dawn and lasts until early afternoon, so it is advisable to bring some food and drink on board. Trips take place during the season, from June and throughout the summer, always subject to sea conditions.
It is a plan suitable for almost anyone: it requires no previous experience or special physical preparation, although it is worth noting that there are several hours of sailing in open sea, so if you are prone to motion sickness, it is recommended to take precautions.
Beyond the cetaceans, the voyage is a maritime experience in itself: departing from the bay of Laredo at dawn, with Puebla Vieja at your back and Mount Buciero of Santoña on the horizon, and the Costa Oriental de Cantabria viewed from the sea.
