Intermediate Canyoning at La Leze Cave, Araia

Context The La Leze Canyon runs through the Sierra de Altzania in Álava, crossing a natural limestone cave approximately 60 meters high, creating a distinctive karst landscape. The descent covers about 2.5 km through a unique limestone massif, blending natural light with dark sections, on a slippery terrain that demands constant attention. The wind carries the scent of damp moss and fresh rock.

The Experience The adventure begins with a 50-minute walk from the parking area, passing through a dense oak forest that prepares the body for the journey. After equipping with a wetsuit, helmet, and certified harness, participants descend the canyon under expert guidance. The route includes rappels up to 25 meters, optional jumps and slides, and mandatory swimming sections. The constant echo of water and moist air accompany every step, as progress is made using handrails that aid movement on slippery surfaces.

For Whom This activity is suitable for individuals with basic canyoning experience or beginners in good physical condition, aged 12 and over, who can swim. Not recommended for people with vertigo, fear of heights, or limited mobility.
