Discover Candeleda

Candeleda is a municipality on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Gredos (Ávila) with a Mediterranean microclimate that sets it apart from the rest of the sierra. Olive trees, fig trees, cherry trees and orchards cover its slopes, creating an almost Andalusian landscape at the foot of the Central System's highest peaks. The town is known for its crystal-clear gorges (Garganta de Santa María, Garganta Blanca) for summer swimming, natural pools and as a starting point for routes to the southern face of Gredos. The Vetton hillfort of El Raso, with remains of a pre-Roman settlement, adds an archaeological dimension. Candeleda has a livestock and farming tradition with quality local products: kid goat, paprika, figs and olive oil. The old town preserves the arcaded Plaza Mayor and the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. It is 1h 45min from Madrid via the A-5 and CL-501, and 30 min from Guisando and the pre-Roman Bulls.
