Eagle Caves

The Cuevas del Águila are a set of karstic cavities located in Arenas de San Pedro, in the province of Ávila. Discovered in 1963 by a group of children, these caves offer an underground tour that allows visitors to observe geological formations created thousands of years ago. The interior environment is cool and humid, with a silence broken only by the constant dripping of water, creating a unique atmosphere underground.

During the visit, you can admire a wide variety of stalactites and stalagmites, some with whimsical shapes resembling natural figures. Notable too are the columns and calcite curtains that reveal the slow action of water on limestone rock. The artificial lighting is designed to highlight the details of these formations without disturbing the internal ecosystem.

The geological context of the Cuevas del Águila is framed within the Central System region, where water has shaped the karst landscape over millions of years. Their discovery in the 1960s brought to light a little-known natural heritage, contributing to the tourist and cultural development of Arenas de San Pedro and its surroundings.

For visiting the caves, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing and bring some warm layers due to the constant temperature of around 14 °C. The guided tour lasts approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Pets are not allowed, and access for people with reduced mobility is limited. Advance booking is recommended to ensure availability. Entrance has a moderate cost, with discounts offered for groups and children.
