Who this fits

With friends Adventure Ecotourism Disconnection
It’s a good fit if you are a hiker or mountaineer in good physical shape and enjoy challenges. The one-day option involves between 8 and 9 hours of activity and around 1,000-1,500 m of elevation gain in high mountain terrain; you need to be used to long days. The 2-day option distributes the effort and is more accessible: ideal if you want to acclimatize and increase your chances of reaching the summit. It’s not a good fit if this is your first demanding hike, if altitude affects you greatly or if you expect an easy stroll: Mulhacén requires strong legs, a clear head and respect for the mountain.

Frequently asked

Got a question not listed here? Just ask.

Is prior experience necessary?
You need to be in good physical shape and accustomed to walking for many hours in the mountains. No technical skill is required in summer (from June to October the route is a hiking trail), but it’s not an activity for absolute beginners. If you have any doubts, choose the 2-day option.
Can it be done in a single day?
Yes, the 1-day option involves between 8 and 9 hours of activity and around 1,000-1,500 m of elevation gain. It’s demanding and requires a good level of fitness. The 2-day option, with an overnight stay at the Refugio Poqueira, distributes the effort and increases your chances of reaching the summit.
What materials do I need?
In summer: hiking boots, warm clothing and a windbreaker, cap, sun protection, water and food. In spring or if there is snow at higher elevations, crampons and an ice axe may be necessary, as the guide will indicate depending on conditions.
What is the National Park minibus?
It’s the official service (SIAC) that takes you up to high altitudes from Hoya de la Mora and Capileira in summer and early autumn, as motorized access to the high mountains is restricted. It tends to fill up quickly: it’s advisable to book your place in advance. It is not included by default.
What’s the best time to go?
From June to October, when the route is for hiking and snow isn’t technical. In spring there's usually snow at higher elevations, and the ascent requires winter gear.
