Description

Sonabia Beach is a 154-metre wild cove wedged between vertical cliffs in the municipality of Liendo, on Cantabria's easternmost coast. With no services or infrastructure, it is only accessible on foot via trails descending from an elevated car park.

The golden sand beach with its steep slope is flanked by limestone crags where griffon vultures nest — Europe's closest colony to the sea. The landscape has a raw beauty: vertical rock, open ocean and no sign of development.

Sonabia is the gateway to the Monte Candina massif and the Ojos del Diablo trail (Arcos de Llanegro). The combination of beach, cliff and mountain route makes it one of the most spectacular corners of the Cantabrian coast.
