Description

The Devil's Eyes are two enormous natural limestone arches on the north face of Monte Candina, at about 470 metres altitude above the Cantabrian Sea. Technically known as the Llanegro Arches, these rock windows offer panoramic views of the coast from Laredo to Castro-Urdiales.

The hiking route covers about 8 km round trip with 350-460 metres of elevation gain, medium-high difficulty. It starts from a car park on the old N-634 between Liendo and Orinon, ascending the hillside to the arches. Duration is 2.5 to 3 hours.

Monte Candina is one of Cantabria's most important karstic massifs and hosts Europe's closest griffon vulture colony to the sea. From the arches you can see the "Whale of Orinon" rock formation, and the cliffs drop nearly 500 metres to the sea.
