Mogroviejo

Mogroviejo is a tiny mountain hamlet in the municipality of Camaleño (Cantabria), in the heart of the Liébana region, at the foot of the eastern massif of the Picos de Europa. With barely 44 inhabitants and perfectly preserved stone and wood architecture, it is one of Spain's most photogenic mountain villages.

The village sits on a hillside at 460 metres altitude with the Ándara massif peaks as a backdrop. The medieval tower (13th century) and parish church preside over stone houses with wooden balconies, barns and gardens. The ensemble is a listed Cultural Heritage Site.

Mogroviejo has become a benchmark for rural tourism with its Alpine postcard landscape: green meadows, grazing cows and snowy peaks. The village was used as a filming location for the movie "Heidi" (2015), which boosted its popularity.

Accessible from Potes (10 min drive) and combines with the Fuente Dé cable car, the Cares route, Santo Toribio de Liébana or the Hermida Gorge.
