Context
The horseback riding route through the Valley of Liébana takes place in a protected natural area within the National Park of the Picos de Europa, located in Cantabria. This valley stands out for its lush forests, traditional mountain villages, and panoramic views toward the eastern Andara massif and the Peña Sagra mountain range. The route gently ascends to the Collado la Huerta, from where clear views of nearby peaks and gorges unfold. The fresh mountain air carries scents of thyme and damp leaves.
The Experience
You’ll begin in Potes, where you’ll be fitted with a helmet and safety vest. You’ll ride through earth trails and diverse woodlands, passing through traditional villages with authentic rural architecture. The quiet rhythm of the horse allows you to hear the wind whispering through trees and birdsong echoing through the valley. Along the way, there are stops to admire ancient chestnut trees and enjoy sweeping vistas of the valley and surrounding mountains. The ride lasts between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the selected option.
For Whom
This route is ideal for beginners and families with children from age 6, due to its low difficulty level and relaxed pace. It is not recommended for riders over 115 kg or for experienced equestrians seeking a greater challenge. The route is also not suitable for people with limited mobility.
