Description

The Arnia Rocks are a set of coastal rock formations at Arnia Beach (Piélagos, Cantabria), within the Costa Quebrada Geopark. The urros — limestone islets sculpted by marine erosion — emerge from the sea in front of a small sandy cove flanked by flysch cliffs.

The geological layers visible in the cliffs and urros are over 90 million years old (Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary) and form an open book of Earth's history. The flysch formations — alternating marl and sandstone — appear as horizontal bands in the rock.

Arnia Beach is small (150 × 50 m) and only accessible at low tide. At high tide the waves crash directly against the rocks, creating a visual spectacle especially in storms. The most photogenic urros are visible from the Costa Quebrada viewpoint, 5 minutes walk from the car park.

The area connects with the Liencres Dunes Natural Park (3 km) and the Costa Quebrada Coastal Path, a 7 km shoreline trail with viewpoints.
