Olo River Canyoning — Level V, Maximum Demand

The Olo River rises in the Serra do Alvão (Portugal) and flows to the Galician border. The Olo canyon is one of the most demanding in the northwest of the Peninsula and is rated Level V: highly vertical granite walls, high drops, cold-water swimming sections and essential advanced self-rescue manoeuvres. Turac is one of the few operators with documented experience in this system.

The experience

The Olo Level V is equivalent to the Barranco del Poio and demands maximum technical mastery of canyoning: rappels over major waterfalls, cold-water progression over extended periods, advanced self-rescue techniques and exceptional physical and mental endurance. Easy escape options do not exist in many sections of the route.
