Description

Decoálbero opens the gates of a one-of-a-kind quarry in Alcalá de Guadaíra to show how a golden stone —albero— shaped the history of Seville. The visit starts at Ciudad de San Juan de Dios, where guests board the Bakers' Train, a small tourist locomotive that runs through five themed stations along the site.

At each stop a local guide unfolds a different era: the geological origin of the stone six million years ago, its use in Roman Hispalis and Almohad Seville, its role in building the Cathedral and the Giralda, the artisan trades that flourished around albero, and the present day of the quarry as a cultural venue. The route weaves landscape, geology and heritage in a rhythm suitable for all audiences.

The experience is designed for families, school groups and lovers of industrial heritage. The train moves you around the site without physical effort, groups are small and the narration is supported by visual materials. Tours are run in Spanish and, subject to availability, in English.

The quarry sits fifteen minutes from the centre of Alcalá de Guadaíra and just over twenty from central Seville, perfect to combine with a visit to the castle, a walk along the old watermills on the Guadaíra river or a morning in the bakers' town that supplied Seville with bread for centuries.
