What you'll experience

  1. Arrival in the Benasque Valley and first stage

    Meeting with the guide in Benasque, gear check and safety briefing. First stage approaching the refuge, already entering the massif to spend the night in the mountains.

  2. Towards the north face of Posets

    High-altitude stage crossing the first major pass. Posets begins to show its most imposing face and the landscape becomes pure high mountain scenery, with tarns and alpine meadows.

  3. The heart of the massif among valleys.

    Day linking the Benasque and Gistaín valleys through the passes surrounding the peak. The wildest stage of the route, away from roads and with views that gradually complete the picture.

  4. Lakes and passes on the return journey.

    Return stage bordering glacial lakes and ascending the last major pass. Posets remains whole behind us, already seen from all angles, on our way to the final refuge.

  5. Descent into the valley and farewell.

    Final descent into the Benasque valley to close the loop where it began. Farewell to the group and the guide with the trek completed.

This trip is for those who are good at mountain hiking and want a multi-day high-mountain trek without having to organize anything. You need good physical condition for 6-8 hour stages with significant elevation gain, day after day, and be comfortable sleeping in shared mountain huts. No technical mountaineering experience is required, but a habit of hiking in mountainous terrain is necessary. If you have never done challenging routes or are looking for hotel comfort every night, it’s better to start with something easier.

What level do I need for the Posets loop?
A demanding level: you need to be in good shape to string together four stages of 6-8 hours with significant elevation gain. It’s not technical mountaineering, but it is a tough high-mountain crossing. Previous experience on multi-day mountain routes is recommended.
When can it be done?
From July to September, the only window without technical snow at high altitudes. Outside of that period, mountain passes require winter equipment and experience.
Where do we sleep?
Four nights in mountain refuges with shared rooms, including half-board (dinner and breakfast).
Is the guide certified?
Yes. The trek is led by a certified mountain guide, with public liability and accident insurance included for the group.
