What you'll experience

  1. Theory + kite handling in the sand

    Theoretical briefing: wind, flight window, safety. First practice with training kite on sand. Handling, relaunch from the ground, piloting exercise.

  2. Bodydragging and maneuvers in shallow waters.

    You enter the water with the kite. Bodydrag (advancing without a board), relaunching in the water, kite control exercise with the wave breaking nearby. End of the day feeling like your body is starting to understand the wind.

  3. Water start and first meters on the board

    Final session with board practice. Water-start (getting up on the board from the water), first meters of sailing if progress allows. Closing with instructor feedback and a plan to continue improving.

Built for those with a minimum base in water sports who want to progress fast in a few days, those already travelling to Gran Canaria for other reasons who want to add an intensive, those wanting a short format with no accommodation commitment. Not the right fit for absolute first-timers without prior contact with the sea; for that, Corralejo is gentler.

Minimum age?
12, due to the physical and coordination requirements of kitesurfing in these wave conditions.
Do I need previous experience?
Not mandatory, but the school recommends some familiarity with water sports given the wind and wave conditions at Jinámar. Without previous experience, progress will be slower — for full immersion with more margin, consider the 5-day course in Corralejo (Fuerteventura).
What are wind and wave conditions like?
Steady trade winds year-round. Strong waves breaking in both directions; ideal for progressing, especially at low tide. Bottom is sand mixed with some rocks — booties not essential but helpful.
Is it safe for beginners?
Yes, with certified instructor supervision and full safety gear. For absolute first-timers without water experience, Corralejo is a bit gentler; Jinámar works well when there's a minimum base.
What do I bring?
Swimsuit, towel, water-resistant sunscreen, comfortable change clothes, sunglasses and water. All technical gear is provided by the school.
Where do I sleep?
On your own in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (15 min by car) or Telde (5-10 min). Options range from tourist apartment to hotel. The school can recommend areas but doesn't manage the booking.
How do I get to Jinámar?
Gran Canaria airport (LPA) 15 min by car; daily direct flights from mainland Spain. Public bus (Global lines) from Las Palmas to Jinámar, frequent. A rental car gives more schedule flexibility.
