Description

The Ría de Ajo is one of the best settings for stand-up paddleboarding on the Eastern Cantabrian coast. Its calm waters, sheltered from sea currents by the sandbar between Noja and Bareyo, make SUP an activity accessible to the whole family.

Unlike the open sea, the estuary allows beginners to learn SUP without worries: there is almost no swell, the depth is manageable and the natural surroundings are spectacular. The surrounding marshes form part of the Santoña, Victoria and Joyel Marshes Natural Park, ensuring clean water, aquatic birds and peace and quiet.

Sessions usually begin with a brief explanation of paddling technique and balance before heading out on the water. Within a short time most participants move comfortably, paddling between the green banks of the estuary with the Faro de Ajo in the background. Board rental is also available for those with prior experience.
