Deer Rut and Birdwatching in Monfragüe, Villarreal de San Carlos

Context Monfragüe National Park, spanning 18,396 hectares of Mediterranean forest and dehesa, is one of Spain's best-preserved ecosystems. In autumn, from late September through October, the deer rut occurs—a natural phenomenon where male deer emit deep vocalizations to attract females. This experience offers exclusive access to a private estate within the park, minimizing overcrowding and enhancing the natural immersion.

The experience You’ll join a guided tour either by 4x4 vehicle or on foot, equipped with premium binoculars and telescopes for close-up observation of deer in rut and raptors such as black vultures and golden eagles. The wind carries the scent of thyme as you hear the deep, resonant calls of deer echoing at dusk. The day concludes with a tasting of local Iberian delicacies in a landscape of ancient holm oaks.
