What you'll experience

Ascent through the beech forest and arrival at Ventaniella.
Meeting with the guide in San Juan de Beleño, briefing and distribution of materials. We begin the ascent crossing the Peloño beech forest with Peña Ten in the background. Arrival at the Casería de Ventaniella mid-afternoon, mountain dinner and overnight stay in the refuge.

Route through the passes and return
Breakfast at the farmhouse and picnic for the route. Tour of the high ridges of the park with views to the peaks of Ponga before starting the descent. Return to the meeting point in the mid-afternoon.

It’s a mountain trek of moderate difficulty: you will walk several hours with elevation gain on high-mountain trails to a remote hamlet without road access. No technical experience is needed, but you should be accustomed to hiking and accept that you will sleep in a rustic and isolated environment without coverage or hotel amenities. If you are looking for deep nature and silence, this is a good fit. If you expect comfort, it’s not.

Do I need prior mountain experience?
It’s not essential, but being accustomed to walking several hours with elevation gain is recommended. The trek is of moderate difficulty.
What type of accommodation is the Casería de Ventaniella?
A historic cattle farmstead converted into a rustic and secluded mountain refuge. Shared rooms and communal dining.
Is there mobile coverage?
Not on much of the route, nor at the country house. It’s part of the charm: a real disconnection.
What’s the best time to do it?
From June to October. Autumn is spectacular for the color of the Peloño beech forest.
Is food included?
Yes, full board: dinner, breakfast and route picnic. Extra drinks and meals not included in the program are not covered.
