What you'll experience

Arrival + short route + San Juan Reservoir

Check-in in La Adrada, briefing with the guide, short 25 km route through holm oak forests and descent to San Juan reservoir for a swim. Dinner in the village tavern.
Medium route + La Adrada castle

Medium 40 km route through Adrada-Casillas with views of Gredos. Free afternoon to visit the 15th century castle and the town’s natural swimming pool.
Long route through Sierra de Mijares to the Burguillo reservoir.

60 km / 800 m+ through Pelayos and Sierra de Mijares to the Burguillo reservoir. Picnic on the shore and return trip. Early departure to avoid the heat.

Lodging

Country house in La Adrada or complex with pool

Restored stone house in the old quarter for 2-6 people, or rural complex by the reservoir with seasonal outdoor pool. 70-100 €/night.

Extras

Three MTB routes with local guide

Short 25 km / 400 m+ (dehesa + San Juan), medium 40 km (Adrada-Casillas) and long 60 km / 800 m+ (Sierra de Mijares + Burguillo) rides. Adaptable to skill.
San Juan or Burguillo reservoir

Freshwater swim with Gredos views to close the day. San Juan holds the only inland Blue-Flag beach 1 h 30 from Madrid; Burguillo, wilder, sits at the end of the long route.
La Adrada castle

Restored 15th-century castle, free entry. Preserves courtyard, towers and walls. 1-hour visit, ideal for a rest afternoon between stages.
Basic mechanical assistance on route

The guide carries basic tools, spare inner tube, patches and a pump. Major spares not included; bring your own emergency kit.

Who this fits

With friends Adventure Ecotourism Photography

Fits if you want moderate MTB in an open valley without the hardness of northern Gredos, with reservoir swims to close the day and reasonable prices. Ideal for couples or small friend groups.

Doesn't fit if you want technical enduro (try Sierra de Madrid or Aragonese Pyrenees), 100 km rides or beach destinations. July-August can hit 35 °C in the afternoon.

Will my gravel bike work?

Yes for short and medium routes. For the long route (Mijares-Burguillo) there are some loose sections of trail where a hardtail performs better.

Is bike rental available?

Yes, subject to availability. Best deal in Madrid (rent and get a round trip) than in La Adrada.

Spring or fall?

Autumn (October): yellow chestnuts, reservoirs full of water, temperatures of 20 °C. Spring for flowers and high river flow.

Is there an alternative without a bike?

Yes: guided hiking on the same routes. Same base, same guide, different pace.
