Who this fits

With friends Adventure Disconnection
Built for active weekend getaways for fit friends or couples, for first-time La Pedriza visitors (it's not a sierra that explores well without a guide on a first visit), for those living in Madrid wanting to disconnect without losing a day in the car. Not the right fit for families with small kids (better the El Escorial package) or those needing big-hotel comfort (Manzanares is small rural lodging).

Frequently asked

Got a question not listed here? Just ask.

Do I need a car?
No. Bus 724 from Plaza de Castilla to Manzanares el Real, ~50 minutes hourly. The guide picks up at the village each morning, so no driving during the weekend.
What level does the granite traverse need?
Moderate hiking: 6-8 hours with 600-800 m of accumulated elevation, mixed rock-and-sand terrain, cols and descent through granite boulders. Not technical (no alpine gear), but needs steady feet and good fitness.
Suitable for kids?
More for fit teenagers (14+) than for small kids. The traverse is demanding; for families with kids 6-12, a friendlier getaway than this one is the El Escorial weekend (also in this Hub). Or shorter routes in La Pedriza exist; tell us when closing dates.
Can it be done in winter?
Yes, except heavy snow episodes. La Pedriza is lower than the rest of Guadarrama (highest points around 2,000 m, but the standard traverse runs between 1,000 and 1,500 m). October-April is a pleasant season, without summer crowds.
What's the Sunday alternative if I don't want more hiking?
Three options we have closed: guided horseback ride through La Pedriza, nature photography session with local guide, or beginner rock climbing baptism. You choose at confirmation.
How is this different from coming on your own to hike?
Three things: closed accommodation in the village 5 minutes from the park, local guide who knows the passes and the safe traverse zone (no official trail marks — La Pedriza has minimal signposting), and the Sunday alternative coordinated. If you just want to hike and sleep separately, signposted routes exist for self-guided.
