Description

Orbaneja del Castillo is a village in the Ebro Canyon in Burgos where a waterfall springs from a cave in the rock and flows through the village between the houses before tumbling into the River Ebro. It is one of the most viral images of Castile and one of the most visited villages in northern Burgos.

The Cueva del Agua, from which the waterfall springs, is visitable (free access). The water emerges from an underground karst system and cascades in stepped falls between the stone houses to the Ebro. The Ebro Canyon, with 200 m walls, frames the village.

The village has a few dozen inhabitants, stone houses and a viewpoint over the canyon. In summer it gets crowded — go midweek or early.
