Description

Santa María de la Hoz is an abandoned hamlet in the Rudrón river gorge (Burgos), wedged between 100-metre limestone walls. What remains of the village — a few ruined houses, a Romanesque hermitage and a bridge — blends with the gorge creating a scene of abandonment and wild beauty.

Access is on foot from Tubilla del Agua or from the BU-514 road, along a path descending to the canyon floor. The Rudrón gorge is one of the most beautiful and least known canyons in Burgos.

It combines with a route through the Rudrón canyon and a visit to Orbaneja del Castillo (15 km). Area of griffon vultures.
