About Segovia

Segovia has two clearly distinct activity zones divided by the Sistema Central. To the south, the Navacerrada and Cotos mountain passes give access to the highest peaks in the Sierra de Guadarrama: La Mujer Muerta reaches 2,024 m and is the go-to high-altitude hiking reference in the Madrid metropolitan area. In winter, snowshoeing at Navacerrada lets you move through the pass even when snow covers the marked trails. The canyoning of the Chorro de Navafría, on the Segovia flank of the mountains, has a main drop of around 8 metres and long pools, with an active season from May to September.
Climbing on the Segovia side of La Pedriza — technically in the municipality of Manzanares el Real, right on the Madrid boundary — has natural access from Segovia via the SG-510 and N-I roads. The granite sectors concentrate more than 200 routes of all levels, from beginner slabs to 7c cracks. For those who prefer horses, the Segovia countryside between Cuéllar and Cantalejo has farms with horseback routes through holm-oak parkland and pine forests on gentle terrain.
To the northeast, the Vía Verde del Riaza runs along the former mineral railway between Aranda de Duero and Linares del Arroyo, covering 30 km suitable for cycling, skating and walking without traffic. The La Serrezuela section has rock walls on both sides of the path and several short lit tunnels. Combining the castle of Coca, the Duratón gorges and the Segovia aqueduct turns any circular route into a mix of nature and heritage without repeating any section.

Practical tips
