What you'll experience

Pine forests, beech forest and the silhouette of Moncayo

Departure from the village of origin after horse assignment and guide briefing. Ascent along ancient livestock trails crossing first dry holm oak groves, then reforestation pine forests and, at higher elevations, the shady beech forest. Approximately 5 hours on horseback with technical stops. Arrival in the late afternoon at rural lodging in a village of the region; dinner at the rider’s expense in a local restaurant recommended by the guide.
Descent and Cistercian Monastery

After breakfast (not included), depart on horseback along an alternative route, passing near the Monastery of Veruela. Exterior stop and, if you wish, optional entry to see the cloister and the cell associated with Bécquer. Continue to the starting point; another 5 hours approx. Expedition ends in the mid-afternoon.

One night in a rural house, hotel or hostel in the Tarazona-Moncayo county. The guide assigns lodging based on availability and group size.

Guided horseback route with assigned horse, 5 riding hours per day and a certified riding guide. Covers Moncayo's north face, beech and pine forests.

Light trail food during the riding days (fruit, nuts, water). Formal meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are not included: the guide recommends local restaurants.

Stop at Veruela Monastery
Exterior stop on day 2 at the 12th-century Cistercian Veruela Monastery, where Bécquer wrote his Letters from My Cell. Monastery entry is optional, paid on site.

Who this fits

With friends Adventure Ecotourism Local Life

Fits if you have basic riding experience (walk, trot, able to stay 4-5 h in the saddle) and want a real expedition, not a photo. Fits if you care about history: Bécquer, Veruela, the medieval frontier. Does NOT fit if you've never ridden, if sustained trot scares you, or if you expect a spa at night. Logistics are village-grade, not resort.

Do I need previous riding experience?

Yes, basic. You must control walk and trot and stay 4-5 hours in the saddle per day. Not a stroll for absolute beginners.

What's the rider weight limit?

95 kg, for the horse's welfare. If you exceed, contact us before booking.

What happens if it rains or snows?

If the summit has snow or weather is dangerous, the guide adapts to lower routes or reschedules at no cost.

Do we go inside Veruela Monastery?

The exterior stop is included. The entry ticket (~€2) is paid on site and depends on the monastery's schedule.

Is it suitable for children?

Given the demand and duration, recommended from age 14 with prior riding experience.
