What you'll experience

Arrival in Vinuesa

Check-in at the rural house in the historic center, stroll through the stately homes and dinner of torreznos at a village tavern. Astronomical observation if the sky allows it.
Main route to Laguna Negra

Departure at 8:00 AM, 55 km with 1.187 m+ along pine forest roads to the glacial lagoon. Picnic at the viewpoint. Descent via Salduero and Molinos de Duero. Return in the afternoon.
Short Route + Rope of the Well

Short 25 km route around the reservoir, swim at the indoor beach if the temperature allows, lunch at a traditional restaurant and return.

By car: Vinuesa lies 35 km from Soria (SO-840) and 230 km from Madrid (A-2 to Almazán + secondary road). Essential to move bikes.

By train: Madrid-Soria AVE service is limited (often suspended); use the direct Madrid-Soria bus (2 h 45) and transfer/bus to Vinuesa.

By plane: Madrid-Barajas (250 km) and Pamplona (170 km) airports.

Fits if you enjoy road/gravel cycling at mid-altitude (1,000-1,700 m), silent forests and mountain food. Works for couples or small groups with a cycling base or e-bike.

Doesn't fit if you want highly technical MTB (try Gredos or Sistema Central), urban routes or beach destinations. Winter brings snow and route closures.

Is the climb to Laguna Negra challenging?

Yes: 55 km with 1,187 m of positive elevation gain. Requires a cycling base. Comfortable with an e-bike or shorter route (25 km).

Is a gravel bike okay?

Yes, it covers almost the entire route. Only the last km before the viewpoint has loose gravel where an MTB performs better.

Is it possible in winter?

Not recommended: snow and ice between December and March. The lagoon may be frozen (a spectacular sight) but the trails are not cyclable.

How to combine with mushroom foraging?

In October-November, add a day for a workshop with a mycologist. Boletus, níscalos and trumpets are common finds.
