Templar Castle of Ponferrada

The Castillo de los Templarios de Ponferrada is a medieval fortress located in the city of Ponferrada, in León province, Castilla y León. Built mainly in the 12th century by the Order of the Temple, this castle stands at the confluence of the Sil and Boeza rivers, a strategic site that allowed control of the area and protection of pilgrims traveling the Camino de Santiago. Covering approximately 16,000 square meters, it is one of the largest Templar castles in Spain.
