Context
The outdoor climbing wall at Valle San Martín in Ciudad Rodrigo opened in September 2022 as a public facility designed for sport climbing and bouldering, with a rubberized floor for safety. Located within a larger open-air sports complex, it offers a secure and welcoming environment for newcomers to climbing. Unique features include repurposed climbing holds donated by local firefighters, adding a sustainable touch to the facility. The breeze carries the scent of wild thyme, and the quiet hum of nature enhances the outdoor experience.
The experience
You’ll take part in a guided session where you’ll learn basic climbing techniques on equipped walls and in the dedicated bouldering area. Under expert supervision, you’ll use a harness and carabiner to secure your ascent, feeling the textured rubber floor beneath your feet in the bouldering zone. The session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, combining hands-on learning with practical climbing in a natural, open-space setting surrounded by other sports facilities.
For whom
Ideal for children from age 6, beginner adults, and families looking for a safe, active outdoor sport. Not suitable for advanced climbers seeking technical challenges or individuals with limited mobility who lack specific adaptations.
Local context
The climbing wall is part of the larger Valle San Martín sports complex, regularly used by local mountaineering clubs such as Club Karakorum. The community values the facility as a space to promote climbing and family-friendly sports, blending local tradition with sustainable design principles in its construction.
