Lekeitio is a fishing village on the Bizkaia coast with one of the most beautiful beaches in the Basque Country: Isuntza Beach, which at low tide connects to the island of San Nicolás (Garraitz) via a sandbank you can walk across.
The old seafaring quarter, the Gothic basilica of the Asunción (housing one of the most important altarpieces in the Basque Country), the active fishing port and cobblestone streets with pintxos bars make Lekeitio one of the most authentic towns on the Basque coast.
The seafaring tradition is alive: the San Antolín festivals (September) include the "Antzar Jokoa" (goose game over the harbour), one of the most distinctive traditions on the Cantabrian coast.
Lekeitio is 60 km from Bilbao and 55 from San Sebastián, on the Lekeitio Coast. Ideal as a base for exploring the Bizkaia coast between Urdaibai and the Gipuzkoa border.
