The area

La Vall de Boí, in Alta Ribagorça (Lleida Pyrenees), is the western gateway to Aigüestortes National Park. A valley of stone villages and Romanesque bell towers, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, from where 4x4 taxis depart for the planell d'Aigüestortes. Quiet and welcoming, it is an ideal base for a family getaway.

By car: from Barcelona, about 4h30 to the Vall de Boí via the N-230 and L-500. From Lleida, around 2h30. The interior of the park is best explored by 4x4 from Boí.

By plane + car: Barcelona-El Prat airport is the most well connected; from there, rent a car to the Vall de Boí.

By train + car: train to Lleida-Pirineus and a rental car for the final stretch to Boí (there is no direct train access to the valley).
