Description

Context Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, is a living museum of recent volcanic activity, with landscapes shaped just a few centuries ago. Its National Park of Timanfaya covers 51 km² of protected volcanic terrain, where the ground reaches temperatures of up to 600°C just a few meters below the surface. The wind carries the scent of salt and ash, a constant reminder of the raw natural forces that shaped this island.

The experience The day begins in Puerto del Carmen, from where you travel by transport to the Cueva de los Verdes, a volcanic tunnel with natural rock formations that resemble sculptures. You then visit Jameos del Agua, where César Manrique’s architecture blends seamlessly with rock and light. A scenic boat ride takes you across the Atlantic to La Graciosa, offering panoramic views of the volcanic coast. A wine tasting in La Geria reveals how people have adapted to the black ash soil. Finally, you explore Timanfaya National Park, observing geysers and walking among lava flows, with the option to ride a camel. The dry, warm air wraps around each step.

For whom This tour is ideal for adults in good physical condition interested in geology, nature, and local culture. It requires moderate walking and long transfers. Not recommended for those with severe mobility limitations or claustrophobia.

Local context Lanzarote owes much of its identity to artist César Manrique, whose work fuses art and volcanic nature. The vineyards of La Geria exemplify human adaptation to a harsh environment, while local communities preserve traditions that dialogue with the island’s unique landscape.
