Description

This 6-kilometre circular trail takes around 3 hours and combines two of the most outstanding natural highlights near Riaño: the Biescas beech forest, a deciduous woodland of centuries-old beeches that is particularly spectacular in autumn, and the Cueva Vieja del Monte, an ancient natural cavity that was part of the geological and legendary heritage of the flooded villages. The path follows forest tracks with little technical difficulty but some accumulated ascent. It offers views over Riaño reservoir and the surrounding peaks, and passes through areas home to the typical mountain fauna of León. Waymarked and self-guided.
