Discover Alquézar

Alquézar is a medieval village perched above the gorges of the River Vero, in the Sierra de Guara (Huesca). Declared a Historic-Artistic Site, its silhouette of stone houses crowned by the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor is one of Aragón's most iconic postcards. The village is the main gateway to the Sierra de Guara canyons — the European capital of canyoning. Alquézar's adventure companies offer canyon descents for all levels, from family-friendly beginners at Barranco de la Peonera to technical routes in the Mascún Gorge. Beyond canyoning, Alquézar offers hiking along the River Vero walkways (a spectacular route above the canyon), climbing, via ferrata, kayaking and MTB routes. The village has restaurants, rural accommodation and a unique active tourism atmosphere in the pre-Pyrenees. The River Vero Rock Art (World Heritage) adds a cultural dimension. Alquézar is 50 km from Huesca and 1h 45min from Zaragoza.
