What you'll experience

Arrival and intro

Check-in. Afternoon session with mycologist: intro to the fungi kingdom, key Los Alcornocales species and picking rules. Dinner.
First outing and sorting

Morning: 4-5h foraging walk with basket. Picnic lunch. Afternoon: sorting and photo session. Optional themed dinner with edible species.
Second outing and wrap-up

Departure to a second park zone (different habitat: pine or dense cork oak). Light lunch. Closing review with species list. Departure.

Rural house or perimeter rural hotel

2 nights in a Natural Park lodging with garden or terrace for outdoor identification sessions.

Partial board: breakfasts on all 3 days and picnic lunch during routes. Dinners not included (we recommend a restaurant with mushroom menu).

2 mycology routes with biologist

Two 4-5h sessions in different habitats (canuto + pine/cork oak). Wicker basket, field guide and manual included.
Theory and identification class

1h30 introductory session to the fungi kingdom and Los Alcornocales' key species. Plus classification sessions after each route.
Mycology licence handled

We process the free Junta de Andalucía individual licence. Limit 3 kg/person/day.

Who this fits

Fits if you have a naturalist or gastronomic-mycology interest, travel as a couple or small group (2-6) and enjoy damp forest. Beginner-friendly: the monitor teaches identification from scratch.

Doesn't fit if you expect to 'harvest' rather than learn, or come during dry months (July-September): there will be no mushrooms. Not for very young children either.

Can I take mushrooms home?

Yes, up to 3 kg/person/day per licence. We teach you how to transport them (basket + paper, no plastic) so they last several days.

What if it doesn't rain and there are no mushrooms?

If forecasts are extremely dry, we'll warn you in advance and reschedule or adapt. It's a natural risk; we navigate it together.

Are there dangerous toxic mushrooms?

Yes: Amanita phalloides appears in oak zones and is lethal. That's why ALL picking is supervised by the mycologist and you must NEVER eat what you pick without species-by-species verification.

Can I bring children?

From 10 it works well if they're interested. Younger kids get bored with the slow pace and don't last bending down.
