Description

The Puente Nuevo de Ronda is an 18th-century stone structure that connects the two parts of the city of Ronda, separated by a deep gorge called "El Tajo." This bridge spans a drop of over 100 meters, providing a vital link between the old town and the modern area. Construction began in 1751 and was completed in 1793, marking a significant engineering achievement of its time.

Walking across the Puente Nuevo, you can enjoy panoramic views of the gorge and the Guadalevín River flowing below. The bridge features a central viewpoint from which the cliffs and surrounding vegetation can be admired. Additionally, on one side there is a small museum room that explains the history and construction of the bridge.

This bridge is a symbol of Ronda and reflects human adaptation to the rugged landscape of the Serranía de Ronda in Málaga province, Andalusia. Its construction was a major technical and social challenge, facilitating trade and communication between the two parts of the city, which had previously been almost isolated from each other.

Visiting the Puente Nuevo requires no entrance fee and access is free all day. Comfortable footwear is recommended to explore the surroundings and enjoy views from different angles. The bridge is accessible for people with reduced mobility at its main entrances. It is family-friendly and also suitable for visitors with pets. A visit typically lasts between 1 and 2 hours, including walks around the viewpoints and nearby areas. No advance booking is necessary.
